I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING

I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING

“WHEN GOOD HAPPENS WHEN I DID NOT EXPECT IT I HAVE TO THINK THAT

I HAD LESS TO DO WITH IT THAN HE WHO BLESSES ME EVERYDAY.”

I had a phone call that I did not expect. Yes I did enter my books for evaluation for awards in the KANSAS AUTHORS CLUB annual competition but being a new member of the organization I fell off my stool when the phone call came.

My third book on Kansas history, TRUE TALES OF KANSAS, is a work that I am proud of. Due to the Covid the marketing of the book was restricted to sales through shops and the internet. I have not had the chance to do any book signings and personal sales. With my own experience with the virus and then the reaction from the vaccine I have been stuck at home. I have had the worst of it settle in my knees. Coupled with everything else I just cannot get out and do anything. So that is why the phone call just knock my hat off.

The call informed me that TRUE TALES OF KANSAS has won the MARTIN HISTORY BOOK OF 2021! The big thing was that I could not tell anyone about it. The awards are not announced until the annual convention. I was mailed the certificate so I could get a photo made of myself with the certificate and the book. So I had a quick photo session. That was good since it has been a while since my last photo session. I am getting older so a good photo is good.

By the time you see this the convention is over. So I can get this off my chest. It is so great that a project you work so hard on is judged by your peers that it really is a good work. I had hoped that readers not only learn from my books but also enjoy the time spent reading them. It means so much to me that other writers feel the same way as my readers.

Roger – we are so proud of you. You have been working so hard for so very many years. This is well deserved. And this is the best kind of recognition, when it sneaks up and taps you on the shoulder!! You are being noticed and appreciated, big time. Much love – Martha and Jim
